I'm what you would call a breadaholic.

I love bread more than my own life. And so much so, that if my doctor informed me I could no longer eat bread because I had a gluten allergy and it would eventually kill me, quite frankly, I'd eat it anyway.

Being of Italian descent on both sides, telling me I can no longer eat bread is like telling me that I can no longer breathe. Because bread, to any Italian, is OXYGEN.

And it's the same with pasta and cheese.

I can't (and will not) live without them.

But today, let's talk about bread.

Bread! Bread! Bread! And more Bread!

My love of bread started when I was born. Most babies' first word is either "Mama" or "Dada." Mine was "BREAD!"

I love all kinds of bread...

However, my favorites are Artisan rustic breads because I like their thick crusts...

Whenever I'm in a food store and see Rustic baguettes displayed as in the picture below, I suddenly get the urge to run; charging towards their pointed ends, and IMPALE myself on them...

I tried this recipe not too long ago and loved it - HUMMUS TOAST WITH AVOCADO AND CHERRY TOMATO...

Another delicious way to eat bread is as a bread bowl filled with yummy soup...

Also, did you know there was such a thing as "Bread Couture"? Here, take a look...

These are two items I'm thinking of purchasing for myself...

So yes, as you can tell from my exuberance, I LOVE bread!

Not only do I love bread, but I Love Lucy as well.

Therefore, in conclusion, I would like to share a scene from I Love Lucy, in which Lucy and Ethel make a loaf of bread. However, they put in too much yeast, which causes the bread to bake into a MASSIVE loaf...

🍞🥖🍞🥖Have a delicious week, everyone!🍞🥖🍞🥖

*Do you love bread like I love bread?

  1. Ron, do you know what's hilarious? I'm reading this post while having my morning coffee with BREAD (a blueberry scone), can you believe that? Needless to say, yes, I love bread! When I read the part about your first word being "bread", I laughed my ass off.

Oh my god, what a delightful post to read first thing in the morning. And where did you ever find those Bread Couture photos? Brilliant! And I MUST have a pair of those stylish loafers.

And speaking of cheese, I'm a cheeseaholic too!

Fun, fun, post, Ron! I must shared this with two of my friends. They'll love it.

  2. Goooooooooood morning to you, Candice!

OMG, yes, that is HILARIOUS! And btw, I love scones! Years ago when I was still living in Florida, I worked (briefly) at an authentic English Tea House in Mt Dora, Florida. It was owned and operated by a couple from England. The menu was fantastic!

I found those photos online. If you click on the collage, it will take you to the site. Aren't they genius?

"And speaking of cheese, I'm a cheeseaholic too!"

Last night I made a HUGE salad, which I sprinkled (doused) with feta. That's the favorite cheese!

Thanks so much for stopping by this morning, Candice. Have a fabulous day!

  3. I love feta to, Ron! Also, goat cheese, Swiss, brie, and a nice sharp cheddar. My list is endless. Lol!

  4. Ron, I most certainly do love bread, and I'm not even Italian...I'm Spanish. I love bread as much as I do rice. And as much as I love this post!

"...telling me that I can no longer eat bread is like telling me that I can no longer breathe. Because bread, to any Italian, is OXYGEN." --- LOL! and that's like telling someone who is Spanish (like me) that I can no longer eat RICE. Ain't happening.

The photographs of the bread you shared are mouthwatering. I like Rustic bread as well. I have special bread maker that I got as a Christmas present years ago, but have not used it in a while. Your post has given me the nudge to start using it again.

Bread bowls are one of my faves. You get the best of both worlds. You get to eat soup and have your bread right there for dipping.

Where did you find those Bread Couture photographs? They're hilarious! And those loafers and backpack? Priceless!

Thanks for my morning giggles, Ronnie! But now you got me all hungry for some BREAD! xox

  5. Being that you and I are boomers, I recall watching I Love Lucy, and that specific episode with the bread! Wasn't that show the best? And wasn't she (and Vivian Vance) the perfect pair? Hilarious duo! The whole cast was great!

Okay, being that I am Italian too, need I confess my addiction to bread? But I have to watch just how much I eat because I can put on the POUNDS is I ever indulge. But there are times (like the holidays) when I don't care and will eat as much as I want. I'm that way with pasta as well.

Those loafers are hysterical. I want a pair! Bread bowls? LOVE them too! Do you know the restaurant Panera Bread? I used to go there a lot when I still lived in NY. Even though they are a chain, they have some really delicious food. I really like their salads, as I do their bread bowls.

Being Catholic, you know what they say about bread, right? Give us our DAILY bread. Amen! Lol!

Hey, what do you think of the sudden heatwave we just got? Yes, I hate it too! xo

  6. Yes, to all on your list! Which reminds me that I have not had Swiss is years, so I need to purchase some soon. My father loved Swiss. Another one of my favorites is Asiago. Yummy!

  7. Hola, Denise!

"and that's like telling someone who is Spanish (like me) that I can no longer eat RICE. Ain't happening."

LOL! I love rice as well! Many of friends from Florida were Latino, so I developed such a love for Spanish food, rice being one of them. In fact, I always have rice on-hand. I especially love Basmati because it cooks so fast. I can make a feast from black beans and rice!

"I have special bread maker that I got as a Christmas present years ago, but have not used it in a while. Your post has given me the nudge to start using it again."

How fabulous that you have a bread maker! When I worked at Williams-Sonoma back in 2005, we used to make bread every morning before the store opened, so that we had it for dipping. Unfortunately, they don't do that anymore.

Aren't those Bread Couture photos fantabulous? If you click on the collage, it will take you to where I found them.

Thanks so much for stopping by this morning, my friend! Have a terrific Tuesday and week!

  8. "Being that you and I are boomers, I recall watching I Love Lucy, and that specific episode with the bread! Wasn't that show the best? And wasn't she (and Vivian Vance) the perfect pair? '

Yes, Elaine...they were the BEST! And like you said, the WHOLE case was great (Desi Arnaz and William Frawley). They couldn't have cast a more perfect team of actors. And even to this day, I still laugh so hard when I watch the episodes. Timeless comedy!

" But I have to watch just how much I eat because I can put on the POUNDS is I ever indulge. But there are times (like the holidays) when I don't care and will eat as much as I want. I'm that way with pasta as well."

HA! We Italians were born with the "bread gene"!!! I try to eat bread and pasta moderating, however, once I start, it's so hard for me to stop. Gratefully, bread, pasta, and carbs in general, have never affected my weight. But I think that's because of my high metabolism. I also walk a lot, so that may help as well.

Yes, I most certain do know Panera Bread, love that place! And you're right, they food (for being a chain) is very, very tasty and well-made. I first discovered Panera Bread in Orlando, Florida. We have one here in Philly, but the customer service is horrendous, so I refuse to patronize it.

"Being Catholic, you know what they say about bread, right? Give us our DAILY bread. Amen! Lol!"

OMG...that CRACK ME UP!!!!! Thanks for the reminder!

Always great to read your comments, my friend. Have a great rest of your week!

HATE this sudden heat. Yesterday was 90. In APRIL! This summer is going to be horrendous, I can tell.

  9. Ron, those bread couture dresses are so creatively AMAZING! Are they for real? I wonder how easy/or not easy it was to walk in them?

I'm a bread lover as well. However, I try to eat it in moderation, but it's hard because once I start, I can't stop. I'm that way with cheese too.

I love those photos of the kids eating bread. They are so cute!

"And my response would always be, "My love of bread started when I was born. Most babies' first word is either "Mama" or "Dada." Mine was "BREAD!" - ROFLMAO!

I've got to try that hummus toast with avocado and cherry tomato recipe. Looks incredible! Feta is my favorite cheese. And I'm a big fan of hummus too.

Funny, I just ate. Yet, I suddenly have the urge for BREAD. I wonder why????

  10. Morning, Daniel!

I know, aren't those bread dresses A-MAZING? I found them online while Googling - bread clothes - and VIOLA!...there they were! I wondered the same thing. If you click on the collage, it will take you to where I found them. There are much more.

"I'm a bread lover as well. However, I try to eat it in moderation, but it's hard because once I start, I can't stop. I'm that way with cheese too."

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee too! I try VERY hard to eat them in moderation, but it's not easy. I can sometimes cook 1/2 pound of pasta and eat the whole pound myself. And when it comes to cheese, same thing. And don't even get me started on BREAD. LOL!

"I've got to try that hummus toast with avocado and cherry tomato recipe. Looks incredible! Feta is my favorite cheese. And I'm a big fan of hummus too."

To me there is nothing more heavenly than hummus, mixed with avocado and bread, topped with tomatoes and doused with feta. I sometimes even put kalamata olives on it too.

HA! I know, I suddenly have the urge for bread too!

Thanks so much for stopping by this morning, my friend! Have a most excellent week!

  11. Ron, I totally get your love of bread because my mom was the same way. And yes, I do believe it's part of the Italian culture because my dad could pretty much take it or leave it! I'm somewhere in the middle. Sometimes, I crave bread but other times, meh.

I'd be scared half to death to wear those bread-based dresses. All I could think of when I saw them was millions of ants or roaches crawling all over those models, trying to satisfy their hunger! Same goes for the loafers. I shudder to think of BUGS crawling over my feet!!

Would you believe I've never tried a bread bowl with soup inside? And it looks so yummy, too. Thanks for giving me an idea of what to prepare on those cold winter days!

Lucy still holds up in the funny category -- that bread sliding out of that oven had me in stitches! Here's hoping you have a great week (and don't get all the nasty rain we've been receiving). xx

  12. Helloooooooo there, Debbie!

"I'm somewhere in the middle. Sometimes, I crave bread but other times, meh."

Yes, I know what you mean because I feel that way about certain foods as well. But OMG, whenever I see a loaf of bread, I go INSANE with desire. HA!!!

"I'd be scared half to death to wear those bread-based dresses. All I could think of when I saw them was millions of ants or roaches crawling all over those models, trying to satisfy their hunger! Same goes for the loafers. I shudder to think of BUGS crawling over my feet!!"

I can't imagine what how they got those dresses ON and how they could walk in them. I think they were designed almost as a "still work of art" - kind of like a sculpture. And I wonder if they coated the bread with some sort of sealant as to keep the bread intact and BUG-free! But I do think the designs are so original and fabulous!

Yes, bread bowls are much more an autumn and winter food.

Don't you just love Lucy? That show STILL makes me laugh whenever I watched it online. The comedy is timeless!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend! Have a faaaaaabulous rest of your week!

-No, we don't have any rain in the forecast for this week or next week. However, we are already getting horrendous heat. Yesterday was 90 degrees. And it only April. :(

  13. Ron, I so love those pics of the baby boys eating bread. The looks on their faces are so precious!

Rustic bread is my favorite too. Like you said, it's the crust that appeals to me. I love to get my bread fresh, so that it's still warm when I get home. Sometimes I'll pop it into the oven to get it even warmer. Those spreads look so yummy. And that hummus/avocado recipe looks incredible.

Now that's it's warmer, I want a pair of those loafers for summer. lol! For as much as I love bread, I've never had a bread BOWL. Will have to try it in the fall. They look so good!

Thanks for the humorous, informative, and delicious post, Ron!

  14. Hey there Abby!

Aren't they cute? I found a ton of photos online and had the hardest time selecting just four because they were ALL so dang cute.

" I love to get my bread fresh, so that it's still warm when I get home. Sometimes I'll pop it into the oven to get it even warmer. "

Agree! Eating the bread warm makes it even MORE delicious! You have GOT to try that recipe, it's insanely delicious. It has all my favorite things included!

If you have a Panera Bread in your area, try your first bread bowl there. I had my first bread bowl in the one that was close to my apartment in Florida. They also have salads, drinks, cookies, bagels, etc. And yes, wait until fall or winter because they hit the spot when it cold.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a great day and rest of your week!

  15. I do love bread, but because I’m careful on the carbs, I only eat good bread!! Meaning rustic loaves full of whole grains or sourdough. SO GOOD! I’m obsessed with my grocer’s whole grain cranberry nut bread. I toast it and slather it with my fave sun butter and it’s pure heaven. And you didn’t mention this, but don’t you love dipping a crusty slice in olive oil or using an olive tapenade? So freaking good!

Only very recently have I started eating hummus on my toast at breakfast. I also add a tomato/artichoke tapenade on top of the hummus, but I like your suggestions too. I’ve seen that bread couture before……so crazy!

I guess you really do love bread, Ron. I hope you’re enjoying some right now! XO

Yes, yes, yes to ALL of that! I LOVE dipping a slice in olive oil and or olive tapenade. HEAVENLY! When I worked at Williams-Sonoma, we use to bake fresh bread every morning before opening the store, and allow the customers to DIP the bread into a slew of different oils before purchasing. Trader Joe's has a fabulous Organic Super Bread with Seeds. I think you would love it.

"I also add a tomato/artichoke tapenade on top of the hummus, but I like your suggestions too.

OMG, I'm going to try that because I love artichoke! Thanks for the recommendation.

"I’ve seen that bread couture before……so crazy!"

That was the very first time I ever those. I think they are more of an art piece , rather than something to actually wear.

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Hope you're having a faaaaaaaaabulous week so far!

  18. Hummus toast!?!? I've never heard of this! I love avocado toast, but I think I might prefer hummus toast topped with avocado!
That bread mitten...wonder if it comes in my size? 😊
I love bread more than my extended family. There is no doubt that we are related. My dad grew up on the East Coast. I wonder if we're long lost relatives??
My favorites are also rustic breads. Impale yourself. Omg I laughed so hard. (But I understand)
I would love a grilled cheese on one of these breads.

Excellent post as always, friend. Now I want a bread bowl with soup! ❤️😘

  19. HA! I KNEW you would like it. You and I have the same taste in what we like to eat. Like DUKKAH, which I can't find at TJ's anymore. Enjoy the bread, my friend!

  20. Hellooooooooo there, Kari!

"I think I might prefer hummus toast topped with avocado!"

Yes, that's actually what it is. From the recipe title, it sounds like it's HUMMUS toast. However it's rustic bread WITH hummus and avocado, with tomatoes and feta.

Isn't that mitt ADORABLE? I want one too! The woman who made that mitt creates all sorts of wonderful items.

" My dad grew up on the East Coast. I wonder if we're long lost relatives??"

Ha! I bet we are!!!!! We have so many similarities, don't we?

Don't you just LOVE a grilled cheese sandwich? It's so simple, yet it tastes like a MILLION dollars!

Thanks so much for stopping by, friend. Always a delight to read your comments! Have a great week!

  21. Oh Ron, this post is so dreamy! I love bread more than my own life too. Well, perhaps not MORE THAN MY OWN LIFE, but close. LOL!

Rustic bread is the bomb! It's pretty much the only bread I'll eat. However, when I was a kid, white Wonder Bread was the deal. I look at that now in the gropcery store shelf and think, Ewwwwwwwwww!

That avocado/tomato/hummus recips looks heavenly. I could feat off that as a whole meal.

Those bread dresses are incredible. Indeed, a work of art!

I still watch I Love Lucy on cable. She was a genus at comedy.

    Delicious post, Ron!

  22. Morning, Clair!

" I love bread more than my own life too. Well, perhaps not MORE THAN MY OWN LIFE, but close. LOL!"

Cracked me up! Isn't bread fabulous, though? It's like a GOD. Ha!

"However, when I was a kid, white Wonder Bread was the deal. I look at that now in the grocery store shelf and think, Ewwwwwwwwww!"

It's so ironic that you mentioned that because I was watching an old sitcom online not too long ago, where the mother of the household was making lunch (peanut butter and jelly sandwiches) for her kids using WONDER BREAD! But back then (in the 50s and 60s) that was the bead of choice. However, in my family we also ate Jewish Rye Bread that my father would purchase at a deli. LOVE that bread!

Me too, I could definitely make a whole meal from that sandwich.

I agree, she was a GENUS at comedy! I still laugh when watching it!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a superb weekend!

  25. Ron, do you what my favorite thing to do with bread? I take a piece of rustic bread, sprinkled it with olive oil, coat it with freshly chopped garlic, and then toast it. INCREDIBLE! I sometimes sprinkled it with oregano flakes.

So yes, I LOVE bread like you! However, I don't think I started eating it as young as you did. lol!

Those bread bowls look insanely delicious. Haven't had one in awhile.

    Entertainingly scrumptious post, Ron!

P.S. I want a pair of those loafers too!

  26. OH MY GOD Robert, that sounds freaking A-MAZING! And do you know what's strange? For as much as I love bread, I have never tried using rustic bread to make garlic bread?!? I love garlic to much, and cook with it a lot. I've have got to try that! Adding oregano flakes sounds like a great I idea! I may even try it with fresh basil!

Aren't bread bowls insanely delicious? I like them during the cooler, colder months. They taste so cozy!

Thanks so much for stopping by, Robert! Have a terrific rest of your week and weekend!

  27. Holy shit Ron, both me and my girlfriend were DROOLING over the photos you shared of the bread because we are gigantic bread lovers! We are going to try that Hummus toast with avocado THIS weekend. As a matter of fact, we are on our way to Trader Joe's to get a lot of food that we've been out of. Can't wait to try it.

Those photos of the little YOU eating bread are hysterical. And I've got to say that from an artists point of view, those bread dress ROCK! Like you said, a work of art!

Thanks for sharing, dude! Enjoyed the I Love Lucy clip too!

  28. Hiya Matt!!!!

Do you know what's funny? I just went to Trader Joe's this morning myself because I needed some items for a view recipes I'm trying this weekend. And I was out of avocados, so I picked up three more. Do you know that I eat an avocado every single day? LOVE them!

Doesn't that toast looked heavenly? It has all my favorite things on it.

" And I've got to say that from an artists point of view, those bread dress ROCK! Like you said, a work of art!"

Yes, they are! I know that they're not for wearing, but as a piece of art? They're gorgeous!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. Have a faaaaaaaaaaabulous weekend!

  29. Good morning, Ron. I was diagnosed with a gluten allergy many years ago so had to use alternative bread/pasta products and was pretty strict overall with my diet. I actually lost quite a bit of weight because those 'other' products weren't very good and I tried to do very low fat too. Thanks be to the gods and goddesses that must have intervened because eventually it was found that I didn't actually have the intolerance. So I went right back to eating all the things. Those deliciously good artisan breads... ooh, dipping them in olive oil and special dips or a nice smear of Irish or French butter and, of course, paired it all with hearty pastas. Heaven! Yeah, ok, I did slowly gain all that weight back ... but being fat and happy is better than being thin and deprived! haha I'll be back on a diet again soon enough *sigh* but will allow for bread, cheese, pasta. Maybe I'll tie myself to a chair, fast for 5 days, and then just binge bread, cheese, pasta allllll weekend long. Hello, Italy, could you make sure my weekend supply arrives by 5 pm on Friday, thanks! *insert evil grin and cackling laughter here* haha

    ReplyDelete
  30. Good morning, Mary!

"Thanks be to the gods and goddesses that must have intervened because eventually it was found that I didn't actually have the intolerance."

WOW, I had no idea about what you went through being misdiagnosed with a gluten allergy!?!? Throughout my life, I've met many people who had a gluten allergy and stopped eating gluten all together. Hearing your story makes me wonder if any of them were misdiagnosed because back in 90s and early 2000s, that a lot of people were being told that. It seemed like a huge population were suddenly gluten-allergic.

"So I went right back to eating all the things. Those deliciously good artisan breads... ooh, dipping them in olive oil and special dips or a nice smear of Irish or French butter and, of course, paired it all with hearty pastas. Sooooooooo happy to hear that! Isn't bread HEAVENLY?

I do know that bread (and many carbs) cause weight-gain, which is why people don't eat them, or at least cut back on consumption. I'm one of the lucky people (and I think it's my metabolism) who doesn't gain weight do matter what I eat, but I know I'm in the minority. And GRATEFUL! Ha!

Thanks so much for stopping by, my friend. And thanks for sharing! Hope you're having a FAB weekend. It's been cooler and raining here, the past several days. But I would rather have that than extreme heat.
