The Times reviews the latest album by Echoes of Swing, Winter Days at Schloss Elmau:
This quartet of two Germans, one Englishman and one American put anachronism into their atavism, filtering through their vintage vibe everything from Shakespeare to samba, Brontë to Burt Bacharach. (...)
The pianist Bernd Lhotzky’s verse settings add a layer of cosy contemplation. Robert Frost’s Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening is sung to the funky canter of the little horse that the poet puzzles. Emily Brontë’s The Night is Darkening Round Me is set to a sinister snare drum and forlorn horns. (Chris Pearson)
Breaking News (Ireland) quotes Lena Dunham in The Jonathan Ross Show (tomorrow, December 7):
Dunham said filming in “romantic” Wales helped her recover from the end of her six-year relationship with musician Jack Antonoff, who has written and produced for stars including Taylor Swift and Lorde.
She said: “It was so cosy. There were sheep all around us. I’m from New York City… Suddenly I’m in Wales sitting in a turret in a little castle like I’m freaking Charlotte Brontë.
“The whole thing was so romantic. I was recovering from a broken heart. That’s where you go… I was healing.” (Press Association)
The David Austin roses are 'touring' the US press. Now in the San Diego Union-Tribune:
David Austin and Wuthering Heights fans are going to love Emily Brontë. It is an exceptionally beautiful rose that is soft pink with apricot-colored central petals. The blooms have a strong tea and old rose fragrance with hints of citrus. (Rita Perwich)
Science Focus interviews author and TV/radio presenter Claudia Hammond:
When I was seven, my dad [Nicholas Hammond] wrote The Young Birdwatcher (1978). It made me realise that even people I knew could write books. My sister and I wanted to be the Brontë sisters. I don’t think we realised that things didn’t end well for them!
Khaleej Times interviews student university Almas Hashmi:
A book that changed your life and shaped your outlook?
Every good book I've read has shaped me in one way or another. One would be Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. More than just a dark romance, it taught me that life isn't perfect, and it takes more than just love to make any relationship work.
Purepeople talks about Céline Dion latest Instagram ad:
It's all coming back to me now.
El Periódico de Ibiza (Spain) talks about the local presentation of the book Dramatis Personae by Claudio Naranjo:
The mayor of Bucarest, Gabriela Firea, recommends Wuthering Heights as a Christmas gift according to România Liberă. The same recommendation comes from Wuz (Italy). Emily Brontë's novel is quoted as one of the books in the library of Jane, Tintoretto's girl, according to GlamourJungfrau Zeitung (Switzerland) asks the pianist Maria Rosolemos about her favourite book which turns out to be Jane Eyre.
