A New Leader for Brooklyn Children’s Museum

The Brooklyn Children’s Museum in Crown Heights plans to name Stephanie Hill Wilchfort as its next president and chief executive on Thursday.

Ms. Wilchfort — who grew up in Brooklyn — comes to the post from the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, where she served as vice president of development, overseeing fund-raising, board development, government affairs and the museum’s $20 million capital campaign. Under Ms. Wilchfort individual giving at the Tenement Museum nearly doubled, the museum held its first $1 million gala and more than $11 million was raised for the capital campaign.

The Children’s Museum plans to open its new rooftop pavilion, designed by Toshiko Mori Architect, in the spring.

Ms. Wilchfort is replacing Mindy Duitz, who returned to the museum in 2013 on an interim basis, having previously led it from 1984 to 1994. The museum, which opened in 1899, serves more than 250,000 visitors a year.
