World Music Institute Names New Leaders

The World Music Institute, an organization that presents performances of traditional and folk music from around the globe, announced on Tuesday that it had appointed Par Neiburger as its new artistic director and Cynthia McVay as acting executive director. Both positions were held until recently by Karen Sander, who left the institute to become director of public programs at the CUNY Graduate Center.

Mr. Neiburger was the co-founder and director of the Trinumeral Festival – a multidisciplinary festival in Asheville, N.C., with a strong new-music component – for its entire 12-year run from 2001 to 2012. He also held positions with Asheville Bravo Concerts and Subtropics, a biennial festival of experimental music and art presented by the South Florida Composers Alliance.

Ms. McVay is a member of the institute’s board. Her most recent position was at the Peace Corps, in Washington.
