Liberal Democrat MP Wera Hobhouse has called for Christopher Chope to apologise for blocking her Bill to make ‘upskirting’ a specific criminal offense following confirmation he now supports it. Wera said: 

“Christopher Chope was irresponsible and fundamentally wrong to object to this Bill. He needlessly held up progress on a much needed change in the law and in the process sent a message that this act was somehow acceptable.

“While I am pleased that the Bill now has the consensus it needs to progress, this unnecessary episode must be firmly resigned to the past.

“By objecting to the Bill Christopher Chope let women in England and Wales down. I therefore expect him to make a full apology to all the woman who have been harassed and degraded by this vile practice.”
