Interview About the Future of the Travel Industry

Spotted by Locals co-founders Sanne & Bart were interviewed by the Greek daily Kathimerini about their thoughts about the future of the travel industry after the #covid19 crisis. Here’s a readable (if you know Greek!) version of the article.

Our thoughts in a nutshell:

1. This crisis can have a positive impact on travel and the industry.

We think and hope business travel will be impacted. During this crisis many people will learn that it is possible to work together with people from other countries digitally, and that it is not always necessary to travel to another country just for meeting.

As to leisure travel: we think people will want to keep traveling, and they will continue to do. Growth will continue after this crisis has passed. We think and hope the COVID-19 crisis will make people think about how privileged we are that we can travel to other countries and learn about other cultures.

2. The hashtags #savetourism #dontcancelmodify are becoming viral in the social networks.  We’re not joining these hopeless campaigns. There are more pressing problems for humanity than saving the tourism industry, and rightly so.
