Americans Still Want To See Trump's Tax Returns

I think Trump and his aides thought the tax return issue would go away once he became president. It hasn't. In fact, it has not diminished at all. A very significant portion of the American population (57%) still wants Trump to release his tax returns -- and that includes both genders, all age groups, and all racial/ethnic groups.

The only group that has more thinking he should not release his tax returns is Republicans (29% to 47%) -- probably because they are terrified that he is hiding something by refusing to release them (and don't want anything to endanger their hold on power).

Why is this issue not going away? It could be because only slightly more than a third of the public (35%) thinks Trump is honest and trustworthy. A plurality of 48% says he's not honest and trustworthy, and another 17% aren't sure whether he's honest or not. Trump's refusal is only feeding the public's distrust of him, and personally, I don't think this will change.

These charts are made from information in a recent Economist / YouGov Poll -- done between February 5th and 7th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,315 registered voters), and has a margin of error of 3.2 points.
