After 18 years of being a Nokia user, it is time to say goodbye. Yes, I have been with Nokia for half of my life, and I must say, I did have quite a strong sense of brand loyalty to them. However, things change, and at some point, it's the wise decision to go discover something else. So when my 6-year-old Nokia Lumia 520 started acting up, I did my research and started to look for other equipment.
Looking back, I suppose the idea that made me decide to look beyond Nokia was the fact that their reputation just didn't seem as solid as back then. Back when I started using a mobile phone, everyone was using Nokia. My first phone was a Nokia 3310 back in 2001, and everyone I knew had a Nokia 3310. And when the mobile phones started getting developed, the people around all were touting their various different Nokia mobile devices.
I don't really am a gung-ho type when it comes to technology. I'll use a device for as long as I can use it. I don't change my device every year. So I used the Nokia 3310 in 2001-2003, the Nokia 8850 in 2003-2005, the Nokia 6010 in 2006-2010, the Nokia 5530 XpressMusic in 2010-2013, and the Nokia Lumia 520 in 2013-2019. I wanted to squeeze the life juice of my phones as much as possible: in fact, for my last phone, I even did a factory reset last year just so that I could flush those unreadable files that were accumulating and leaving me with no space.
But in any case, I at some point figured that it was time to get a new one. So I did. I got a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact this time. So it's my first Android phone, and I am still learning how it works. I have an iPhone 7 as a work phone, however, so I do see similarities and it's not a big change as one would otherwise expect, jumping from a Windows Phone to Android.
So we'll see how long this new phone lasts. So far it's working.
