The Razr was a defining phone in the ‘00s,. If you had one of Motorola’s iconic flip phones, you were cool. These days, though, the Razr name mostly invokes feelings of nostalgia. You might even be surprised to learn that Motorola now sells a line of foldable smartphones under this name. And issues of branding aside, the best thing about the newest Razr might just be its price—it’s officially the cheapest way to get in on foldable phones.

Motorola’s latest, foldable Razr isn’t its most powerful, or its most feature-filled. That’s probably why the company set the MSRP at $699.99, $300 less expensive than the $999.99 Razr+. That $700 will get you a flippable smartphone with a 6.9-inch 1080p main display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a 1.5-inch front display, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chip, 128GB of internal storage, 8GB of RAM, and a 4,200 mAh battery. That’s a solid list of specs, and while that front display might be small, it allows you to check in on your phone in small bursts, reducing the number of times you need to open the device.

The Razr is missing some of the flagship features of the Razr+, including it’s much larger 3.6-inch front display, which can do a lot more than its smaller cousin, as well as the faster Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chip. The phones have the same 6.9-inch OLED displays once flipped open, but the Razr+ has a higher refresh rate of 165Hz.

However, it isn’t all tilted towards the Razr+. For some reason, Motorola decided to give the cheaper Razr the larger 64MP shooter, while the Razr+ only gets a 12MP main camera. In addition, the cheaper Razr has a larger battery than the Razr+’s 3,800 mAh power cell, which means it should theoretically last longer without a charge. The slightly slower refresh rate, older chipset, and the much smaller front display may help those stats as well.

As long as you’re okay with some of those sacrifices (and maybe some of those wins), the new Razr is the cheapest way to get in on foldable smartphones. Though to be fair, even the Razr+ doesn’t break the bank in the same way that some other foldable phones like it do—the Razr+ and Galaxy Z Flip 5 typically cost $1,000, but larger foldable phones, like the Galaxy Z Fold 5 or Pixel Fold, retail around $1,799.

The new Razr officially launches Oct. 19, but you can preorder it now for $100 off, making the flippable $599.99. And the Razr+ is also $100 off, so if you’re interested in its larger front display and faster chipset, you can savev a bit there as well.
