LOS ANGELES — Just days after Warner Brothers said Michelle MacLaren had departed as the director of its planned “Wonder Woman” film, the studio replaced her with Patty Jenkins, who had previously been in and out of Marvel Entertainment’s “Thor 2,” Variety and others reported.

Ms. MacLaren had been on track to become the first woman to direct a major studio superhero fantasy; now, Ms. Jenkins appears set to claim that distinction. Warner has said it expects to release “Wonder Woman” some time in 2017.

Ms. Jenkins, who has worked extensively in television, made her mark as a feature director with “Monster,” a 2003 indie thriller that starred Charlize Theron in an Oscar-winning performance as a serial killer.
