The word is out right now that Donald Trump is considering sending an invite to Kanye West to come visit the White House.

Yeezy, who has recently received a ton of coverage all over the political web for his comments regarding the President, is a celebrity. From 2008 to 2016, we decried the turning of the White House into a place to throw Hollywood-style parties for Hollywood.

That’s not to say that inviting celebrities to the White House is inherently a bad thing, but we should be careful about what it is we’re cheering when we’ve just spent eight years complaining about it.

If this is a meeting on politics and culture and reaching out, then I could understand it. If Trump, however, wants to have a dinner and loudly proclaim “Hey look, Haters! Yeezy’s on my side!” then I will be having none of it, and neither should you.

We have to stop praising the same things we were against just a few short years ago. If the President wants to turn the White House into Beverly Hills East, then we should stand opposed to that. Washington D.C. is where the nation’s business is supposed to be done. It is not the place for partying it up with the entertainment elite just because they like you and you like them.

Kanye West has a great platform that Trump could use if he wanted to. They could work together on issues. And, if they do, I’m all for this.

But if this is just an invitation for the invitation’s sake? No thanks.
