What Should We Casserole Next?

Hello everyone, and welcome back to Will It Casserole, the column where we see what meals, dishes, and cuisines can be re-imagined and transformed into casseroles. It’s a new year, which means it’s time to pick our very first casserole project of 2019.

Seeing as we’re right in the middle of the bad portion of winter, we need a cozy casserole that makes us feel like we’re eating a hug. We need something that warms us from the inside out, and sparks joy to the last bite (in case you get the urge to Kondo your fridge). As always, I have ideas:

  • Grilled cheese & tomato soup: There are a couple of different ways we could construct this, but I imagining lots of crusty bread, lots of different cheeses, and a tomato soup reduction.

  • French onion soup casserole: Similar to the above, but with an insane amount of caramelized onions, and a beef base instead of tomato (obviously).

  • Ramen casserole: Someone recommended this many moons ago, and it’s an evergreen idea. Mushrooms, various vegetables, and seaweed would probably be present, or we could go the Roy Choi route and get American cheese involved.

Any of those would be perfectly acceptable to me, but I’d love to hear any creative casserole concepts you’d like to share with the class—the more comforting, the better. Dazzle me!
