'Avengers: Endgame' trailer clocked 289 million views in 24 hours, says Disney

How Disney arrived at that number isn't clear, but obviously the very first trailer for 'Avengers: Endgame' got a lot of people very excited.

It's official: the Avengers: Endgame trailer is a hit. So says Marvel.

The trailer picked up 289 million views in the first 24 hours after surfacing on Friday morning, the company said in a Saturday tweet. The follow-up to Marvel's 2018 ensemble superhero hit, Avengers: Infinity War, is set to hit theaters in April 2019, and Friday's trailer was everyone's first-ever look.

"To the greatest fans in the world, thank you for being there from the beginning until the endgame and making this the most viewed trailer in history with 289M views in 24 hours!" Marvel's tweet read.

It's not clear how Marvel/Disney arrived at that figure. YouTube only shows around 46 million views so far, as of 5:34 p.m. ET on Saturday, so other video sources obviously factor in. The Hollywood Reporter notes that the two previous "most-viewed trailer" record holders were Avengers: Infinity War (230 million) and The Lion King (224.6 million for the new one), according to Disney.
