How Much Sleep Do You Really Need?

Everybody’s sleep needs are a little bit different, but most adults should be getting between 7 and 9 hours per night.

So how do you find your specific number? The National Sleep Foundation says if you can fall asleep within 30 minutes of hitting the pillow, and you wake up once (or zero times) during the night, that’s a sign that you’re getting good quality sleep. And if you’re getting enough, you shouldn’t be tired during the day.

So if you are tired during the day, check that you’re giving yourself the opportunity to get 7 to 9 hours.

If you do, and you’re still tired, health conditions like sleep apnea could be to blame. Or if you can’t seem to get to sleep in the first place, make sure you’ve got a comfy bed and a relaxing, screen-free evening routine.
