How to Use Alexa to Help You Prep For a Job Interview

If you haven’t interviewed for a job in a long time, then even the most basic of interview questions can potentially throw you for a loop. If you’re currently going through the interview process, then a little bit of prep can mean the difference between you coming off like a polished candidate or just a hot mess.

The best solution, in my opinion, is to have a friend go through some potential interview questions with you, and then another friend, and another. The more you practice, the better off you’ll be. And frankly it’s good to have someone listening to your answers that can tell you sound like a jackass and/or you’re not tooting your own horn enough. If you don’t have a pal to work through things with you, then Alexa also has a number of skills that can help you speed along that interview prep.

The idea with these is to go through a number of different interview questions and then think about how you should answer them. Everyone can nail that stereotypical “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” question if they think about their answer beforehand, but if you haven’t you’re likely to either pause for an uncomfortable amount of time while you think up something good and not really answer, or answer and not put your best foot forward.

Interview Prep is an Alexa skill that has hundreds of different questions for interviews for a variety of different job types and areas of work. For instance, you can ask for questions related to job performance or management, or you can ask for questions that are used in interviews at large companies like Amazon and Google.

Alexa clearly isn’t going to listen to your answers and provide you feedback, but they can work as good prompts to get you started thinking about things you might be asked. Since they’re coming at you randomly, it also has a bit of that interview element of surprise.

And if you manage to get through everything in Interview Prep, here are a few other similar skills out there that can offer you even more. A few good ones to start with: Interview Me and Job Interview Questions.
