Schimmel Center Offers Patti LuPone, Buster Keaton and Loudon Wainwright III

The Schimmel Center at Pace University will present a new series in which silent films are shown with live music, as well as productions of “The Nutcracker” and “Don Quixote” by the Gelsey Kirkland Ballet and concerts by Loudon Wainwright III, Patti LuPone, Ben Vereen and the Knights as part of its 2014-15 season.

The season begins on Sept. 21 with “Voce: Rising Opera Stars in Recital,” a concert by the soprano Julia Bullock and the tenor Joseph Kaiser, with the pianist Steven Blier (Sept. 21). Other installments of the “Voce” series include performances by the sopranos Anna Christy (March 8) and Heidi Melton (May 17). A concert by the Knights, with music by Rossini, John Adams and Béla Fleck, rounds out the hall’s classical music programming (Jan. 28).

Ms. Lupone’s concert (May 9), as well as Mr. Vereen’s (May 30), are part of a Broadway and cabaret series that also includes tributes to the music of Cy Coleman (Oct. 18) and Irving Berlin (March 6), both presented by the Fred Barton Orchestra.

The silent film series includes screenings of “Seven Chances,” the 1925 Buster Keaton film (Sept. 28), Alfred Hitchcock’s “The Lodger” (Nov. 2), “The Mark of Zorro,” with Douglas Fairbanks (Feb. 1) and the romantic comedy “It” with Clara Bow (April 19), all with live accompaniments by Ben Model, on the piano and theater organ.

The season also includes dance programming, a world music series, family concerts, illustrated art lectures and Mr. Wainwright’s evening of quirky, narrative-rich songs (Oct. 11). The full schedule can be found on the Schimmel Center website.

An earlier version of this post, and its headline, misspelled the name of the performing arts center at Pace University. It is the Schimmel Center, not the Schmimmel Center.
