Approximately two-and-a-half years since Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher's tragic skiing accident left the former driver with severe brain injuries, Schumacher still can't walk. Felix Damm, the Schumacher family's lawyer, disclosed Schumacher's condition at the beginning of a court case in Germany, reports NBC Sports. German Magazine Bunte is being sued for reporting false information.
Last December, the German Magazine reported that Schumacher could walk again after sustaining serious injuries from a skiing accident in 2013. "He cannot walk," stated Damm at the court hearing in Hamburg, Germany, reports NBC Sports. While Damm revealed that Schumacher could not walk, he added that he would not reveal the full extent of the former Formula 1 driver's condition.
Bunte also reported that Schumacher could raise an arm and take a few steps with some assistance. Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm slammed the initial report as "irresponsible" when it came out last December. The false claim by Bunte is now the basis for a court case in Germany as the Schumacher family seeks damages of between roughly $44,000 and $111,000. A verdict on the case is expected to be reached next month.
Since the beginning of Schumacher's treatment, the family has asked for privacy from the fans and the media, which Bunte ignored with the story that it claims came from a reliable informant. The family's lawsuit seeks damages for an invasion of privacy stemming from the false report.
There hasn't been any recent news in regard to Schumacher's condition as the seven-time Formula 1 champion is still recovering from his injuries. The most recent comment about Schumacher's health came from former Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo who stated that he had "no good news."
