The Library of Congress hosts a vast library of public domain images that can be used for anything you want, including commercial use. And they occasionally curate small collections from their database of over 800,000 photos, prints, and drawings. The Library has built 28 themed collections of images, including a charming collection of vintage cat photos and drawings. Here are some of our favorite old cats.

“Treat ’em rough!” says this U.S. military poster, which unfortunately is not actually recruiting cats.

Brünnhilde is a 1930s cat dressed as a viking, in what disappointingly is not a military photo:

Other Library image collections include visually striking posters, children’s books, “African-American Women Changemakers,” and dogs. You can find hundreds more cat images by searching the Library’s catalog.
