The Humanium Metal that forms TRIWA’s latest watch collection cases is more than a painstakingly crafted blend of fine Swiss steel. It carries ghosts of humanity’s past. It contributes to righting humanity’s future.

When I was granted an early look at the first TRIWA X Humanium watch last year, I was instantly drawn to the clean design of the timepiece, and then I was profoundly struck after learning everything Humanium Metal exemplifies.

Through the first production run of watches from their TRIWA partnership, IM, the creator and producer of Humanium Metal, destroyed and melted nearly 5,000 illegal firearms and contributed more than $70K to fight gun violence in El Salvador. Those melted firearms were all forged into Humanium Metal bars, and then precisely machined into TRIWA Hu39 watch cases. 15% of the proceeds from each watch sold was used to fund anti-violence efforts where the illegal weapons were collected.

Now TRIWA and Humanium Metal watches are back with more models, better internals, and an even greater goal of ending gun violence in El Salvador.

Available through Kickstarter at an earlybird discount of $315, these new Hu39 2 models have the same clean lines and elegant watch form that I’ve been smitten with for the past year. TRIWA remains committed to recycled PET plastic canvas and organically dyed leather straps that are stylish, durable, and surprisingly comfortable. This new 2.0 line adds a three-dial Citizen-Miyota driven Hu39 Chrono and an Hu39 Swiss model alongside the Classic Hu39 and Hu34. A premium Hu39 48-hour Automatic is also available for $525.

While the aesthetic design remains true to the first generation TRIWA X Humanium Metal watches, the Hu39 2 Swiss internals have been upgraded with class-leading Swiss Ronda movements. My Hu39 2 test unit kept time perfectly synced over 96 hours to my go-to SEIKO watch and the stopwatch app on my Google Pixel 3.

I still wear my first gen TRIWA X Humanium watch weekly, and it has continued to regularly draw interest and curiosity from friends and strangers. It’s one of the best random conversation starters I’ve ever owned, and it has a backstory like no other piece of clothing I can think of.

Narrative and righteous cause aside, TRIWA has crafted timepieces out of melted weapons that are nothing short of magnificent. If you missed out on the first production run of these timepieces, this line of TRIWA X Humanium 2.0 watches is available for pre-purchase until October 28th.

It’s time for more peace.
