Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre is one of the most loved novels of the Victorian era. It is the story of a child, rejected by her family and forced into the cruelty of a school for orphans, who achieves the role of governess and whose hopes for happiness are apparently destroyed by the hidden truth of her fiancé’s past. The journey of Jane Eyre is one of fortitude and humility triumphing over the whims of fate and the cruelty of ill fortune.
And in The Dalles, OR:
The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library Third Thursday Book Group meets on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. and is reading some of the titles from PBS’s “Great American Read” list. February’s book is “Wuthering Heights,” by Emily Brontë. (The Dalles Chronicle)
