The actors Michael B. Jordan (“Fruitvale Station”) and John Turturro (“ Barton Fink”) will join in a free reading on Friday evening of Spike Lee’s screenplay for “Do the Right Thing” at the Film Society of Lincoln Center, according to Blackout for Human Rights, a social justice group presenting the event.

An acclaimed film from 1989 about simmering frustrations that build to a police killing of a black man in Brooklyn, “Do the Right Thing” starred Mr. Lee (who also directed) as Mookie, a low-key pizza delivery guy. Mr. Jordan will read the role of Mookie while Mr. Turturro will be Sal, the pizzeria owner who was played by Danny Aiello in the film. (Mr. Turturro played one of Sal’s sons in the movie.) The filmmakers Ryan Coogler (“Fruitvale Station”) and Shaka King (“Newlyweeds”) organized the reading; the event is being held in the memory of Eric Garner and Akai Gurley, two New Yorkers who died after confrontations with police. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis starting at 6 p.m., with one ticket provided per person.
