'38 Rue Utopia ~ Ep.23

The neighbour’s blessed burden within reason
Becomes a burden borne of all and one
~ The Decemberists ‘Don’t Carry It All’ 2011

Mark Weaver

“Theo and Kyle would never do this,” say Alec, “There’s gonna have to be justice Daniel”
“What exactly do you mean Alec?”
“I mean we need to find out what happened Daniel” Alec’s calm is well tested, he never loses his nerve, today his emotions are threatening to surface.
“How do we punish these boys”
“I would assume that they’re being punished already”
“So what about justice for me then? How am I supposed to continue amongst the rest of you as the father of the boys that killed Joe?”
“And how would you have this justice meted out then?”
“I dunno, you tell me, first we need to investigate this”
The voices fall quiet, leaving the sniffs of Delores and Gemma to mark time.
“Okay Alec, let’s think that one over. Fuck knows how much Diesel fuel they will have wasted or how much more it will cost us getting it back, but it’s gonna cost us in hard currency and time.
So if we’re talking about justice then as far as I’m concerned the only justice required here is for this clave, and I’m not talking about patriotism here, I’m talking about survival.
In the meantime, how about we keep this simple; you and me go to Bigmark and bring back the tractor.”
“How do you know they’ve gone to Bigmark?”
“Where else is there to go? The other claves won’t accept them inside their fences without checking out what went down - nobody wants another feud - and if the boys’re stupid enough to head for Metal then there’s fuck-all we can do about it; unless you’d like to follow them in?”
