Pete Davidson hinted at a return to rehab on 'SNL' and Twitter erupted in support

The Saturday Night Live comedian hasn't been shy about his struggles with mental health in the past.

Addressing mental health is no laughing matter, but Saturday Night Live seemed to unwittingly delve into the topic in its latest episode.

When Colin Jost asked fellow SNL cast member Pete Davidson about his holiday plans Davidson hinted that he may be going into rehab. The seemingly voluntary act marks a big step for Davidson, who is only one year removed from a very public (apparent) suicide threat.

"I'm going on a little vacation," Davidson said, putting air quotes around the word 'vacation.'

"Why did you put it in quotes?" Jost asked.

"You know, the kind of vacation where insurance pays for some of it and they take your phone and shoelaces. And you have roommates but it still costs like a hundred grand," Davidson replied.

Jost laughed nervously and told Davidson that he hopes the comedian realizes many people care about him. Both then turned to their phones to confirm it. Then, in the hours that followed, Twitter exploded with support for Davidson heading into Sunday.

This wouldn't be Davidson's first visit to rehab. In 2016, the actor and comedian checked himself into a mental health facility to deal with issues he thought were caused by "excessive marijuana use," the Huffington Post reported in 2017.

Even if rehab isn't what Davidson was referring to, judging by the reactions on Twitter it's clear many of us both care about this one man's well-being and, more broadly, are craving conversations about mental health. Even if it comes in cloaked language on a late-night sketch comedy show.

Mashable reached out to a Davidson representative for confirmation about his possible rehab stay and we will update the story if we hear back.
