Jerry Seinfeld's hit show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee is moving to Netflix after nine seasons on Crackle, Netflix confirmed Tuesday. A new season of the show will debut late this year with 24 episodes, with more seasons following. Previous episodes of the show will also be available on Netflix.
The show's move is part of Seinfeld's wide-ranging new deal with Netflix, a streaming provider that offers movies, TV programs, and original content with shows like House of Cards. Seinfeld will also film two standup shows for Netflix, and the first will premiere this year. He's also going to help develop comedy programming for the streaming company, though further details were not announced. Netflix did not reveal financial terms of the deal.
Rumors swirled last year that Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee could be on the move as Crackle struggled against stronger and larger competitors. For car enthusiasts, Amazon Prime launched The Grand Tour last year and has old episodes of Top Gear.
Seinfeld, 62, is best known for starring in the self-titled comedy, Seinfeld, from 1989 to 1998 on NBC. "When I first started thinking about Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, the entire Netflix business model consisted of mailing out DVDs in envelopes," Seinfeld said in a statement. "I love that we are now joining together, both at very different points."
