This past week Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez of the 15^th Ward called out Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot for her ridiculous claim that “racism” in Chicago is a public health emergency. Based on that claim she redirected approximately $10 million in federal funding for COVID-19 relief to address the crisis of violence that plays itself out in Chicago neighborhoods every weekend. I’ll get back to that in a moment.

Today, we have a horrific video spreading through Twitter showing a fatal shooting on Saturday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood of Chicago.

CBS Chicago2 is reporting that the man was pronounced dead at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the head, and the woman is in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the neck. The man is reported to have been 25, and the woman is 24. The shooting took place at approximately 9:15 p.m., with as many as three males firing at the couple who had been in their car.

Thus far, there are no details being reported as to what led up to the shooting. One fact that can be discerned from the video is that the victims appear to be either Hispanic or Caucasian — possibly Puerto Rican, as a large flag of Puerto Rico seems to be attached to the rear driver’s side window of the car.

At the same time, nearly everyone in the crowd surrounding them and the person(s) who can be seen firing handguns all appear to be black. As you can see in the Twitter post, Elijah Shaeffer captioned the video with the sarcastic comment that this is evidence of the “White Supremacy” the FBI says is the greatest threat to the country.

It’s a sad commentary on the modern-day reality of life in Chicago that if you do a simple internet search for “Chicago Humboldt Park Shooting,” you get a list of news reports of numerous shootings there over the past several months.  To find details on last night’s shooting, it’s necessary to add “June 19” to the search terms.

How many of those people taking the opportunity to record the events with their cell phones turned them over to the police?

The factual basis for Lightfoot’s claim that “racism” is a health crisis is that black residents of Chicago have a life expectancy that is nine years shorter than non-black residents.  Apparently, using Lightfoot’s logic, it is racists killing black Chicago residents at a young age who are responsible for the average life expectancy to have been dragged down as far as it has.

That was too much nonsense for Chicago Alderman Lopez to stomach:

“Generational gang life isn’t just something that’s encouraged. It’s almost revered in some neighborhoods,” Lopez told the Washington Examiner. “If you really want to get to what is at the heart of a lot of this, it is gangs, and it is the borderline collapse of the family unit in many of our neighborhoods … [Lightfoot] has avoided calling out gangs in our community as a source of violence in our city.”

This was ignored by Lightfoot last week when she claimed, “At almost every single point in our city’s history, sadly, racism has taken a devastating toll on the health and well-being of our residents of color and particularly those who are black.”

Lopez disagreed with that sentiment as it applies to Chicago’s problems.

“I think it’s a foil to avoid having to deal with [gang and other issues], period. Two hundred-plus murders in the city of Chicago, none of them were committed because of racism,” he told the Examiner. “I can tell you last week’s gang shooting had nothing to do with racism. The shooting in Englewood Monday morning, four people shot, three others injured, was not about racism.”

The violence across the United States in major American cities — which is largely criminals of minority ethnicity victimizing community members of the same minority ethnicity — will continue until the liberal Democrat politicians that run these cities quit deflecting responsibility for the problem away from their policies. How long will the people living in these cities endure this incompetence behind the farcical claims that the responsibility ALL rests with a “KKK mentality” that apparently lives inside every man and woman unfortunate enough to have ancestors from northern European countries?

It would be hard to manufacture an example of mayoral incompetence that exceeded the level of incompetence that Lori Lightfoot has achieved for herself.
