The city's newest Whole Foods debuts July 21st in Harlem at 125th Street and Lenox Avenue, nearly five years after the grocer announced the new store. As with all of their new stores, the company will mark the occasion with a bread-breaking ceremony Friday morning at 8:45 a.m., followed by the official door opening at 9 a.m.
A solid roster of local food makers will be stocking the shelves of the new store, including several who operate out of the Hot Bread Kitchen Incubator. Overall there will be 20 Harlem brands stocked at what is the company's 12th store in New York City.
Unique to the prepared foods section will be a Kebab grill offering Mediterranean fare like grilled meats and vegetables alongside dips and sauces. The cuban sandwich serves as inspiration for a new pressed sandwich operation, which will offer both classic and "unique" versions of the sandwich. Finally, a Cuban Coffee window on 125th Street will offer breakfast sandwiches made on Cuban bread, in addition to Cuban coffee drinks.
