Kirsten Gillibrand: Trump LITERALLY Wants to Punish Women

There has been no shortage of dramatics in the mainstream media and on the Left when it comes to Trump’s next SCOTUS pick. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) went on Chris Hayes’ MSNBC show Friday night to continue the hysterics saying, “[President Trump] literally wants to punish women”.

Her comment were of course referring to the possibility of a “conservative” court overturning Roe V. Wade. Gillibrand’s understanding of how SCOTUS overturns precedent is about as sophisticated as the left-wing’s understanding of it. It’s true that President Trump said he would “automatically” overturn Roe V. Wade during his presidential run but like a lot of Trump’s pronouncements it was all fireworks with no details. Obviously a president can’t just walk up to the Supreme Court and wave his magic want to overturn a ruling. However, what he did add to that silly promise was that he would appoint justices who wouldn’t be afraid to overturn Roe V. Wade in order to – and this is an important point that Gillibrand and friends refuse to acknowledge – send the power of legislating abortion back to the state level.

Of course now Democrat wants the states to have that power because the reality is that when the people are given the freedom to vote on the issue state-by-state there will be plenty of states that won’t vote “the right way”. Democrats know what’s best for all of us. It’s why they’ve placed so much power and strategy in the hands of the judiciary. They don’t trust the American people to make decisions for themselves.

Here is Gillibrand with host Chris Hayes…cue dramatic music.

President Trump told the American people I intend to overturn Roe V. Wade so whatever he thinks, he’s not the one choosing the justice and President Trump put together his list specifically to find someone to overturn reproductive choices. Didn’t President Trump say during the campaign we have to punish them somehow. He doesn’t value women so every woman and man in America who cares about women’s reproductive freedom and the ability of women to make their own judgments about their own body should speak out and defeat whoever the next nominee is. My view is, Chris, we should not have a vote until after the election, that was Mitch McConnell’s standard and he should live by the standard he set.
