This is a splendid museum. During my first visit to Amsterdam, it was actually being renovated, so I wasn't able to visit until now. It is located in the Museumplein on the southern edge of the Old Town, where it is one of several major museums occupying the area.
I first started with the Asian Pavilion. It's a nice quiet area of the museum, and its two levels showcased some of the most intricate and interesting Asian pieces I have seen in a while.
There was also a section of the museum devoted to the Dutch maritime expansion, and the voyages and the exotic locales that they have visited. There were definitely plenty of things to see and stuff to learn about.
There's definitely plenty to see in this museum. In fact, I stepped out after a few hours during lunch time to take a break. I went out and headed to the nearby Albert Cuypmarkt to get some street food for lunch. And then after that, I headed back to the museum, showed them my ticket, and jumped right back in.
If you're interested in fine art, this is definitely a place to check out. Devote a full day for it, and arrive early to avoid the crowds.
