Spring cleaning isn’t just about cleaning: It’s about organizing, decluttering, and making your home more inviting and efficient. Sure, you’ll spend some time scrubbing, but why not have a fun little project that spruces up your kitchen and makes your spices easier to access—plus makes it easier to determine which are too old and need to be tossed?

A lazy susan is a deluxe addition to any kitchen—and you can make one yourself with just a few tools.

How to make a DIY lazy susan

To make your own lazy susan, per organizing expert Alejandra Costello, you’ll need just a few things, all of which you can grab at your local dollar store:

  • Two deep baking pans of the same size

  • A bag of marbles

Set one of the pans down on a flat surface and fill it with marbles so they’re even across the bottom. Don’t use too many, as you don’t want them stacking up on each other. Next, set the second pan on top of them and you’ll be able to spin it easily in the bottom one. Put your spices or other small essentials in the top dish, all facing outward. According to Woman’s World, you can do this with pie plates, too, but stick to baking dishes if you can, as they have more depth.

While you’re arranging your spices on the lazy susan, consider it to be the perfect time to go through and get rid of any that are past their prime. But you don’t have to stop at spices—you can build a few lazy susans and use them around the house. Make one to hold your canisters of nails in the garage, organize your bathroom toiletries, or use one in your home office for pens, paper clips, and other supplies.
