A man is in critical condition after falling from an Upper East Side apartment on Friday morning.

NYPD and FDNY spokespersons confirmed that the 55-year-old man, whose name has not been released, was transported to Metropolitan Hospital around 9:45 a.m. today. He fell 12 stories from an apartment on 200 East 87th Street, near Third Avenue, officials said.

The Daily News reports that the man was fixing a window in his apartment when he fell. The NYPD spokesperson told Gothamist that there is no sign the man was pushed, and that investigators believe he was "possibly" working on the window at the time.

The man, who was found by horrified passersby on the sidewalk below with a wrench nearby, is currently in critical condition. A construction worker from a nearby worksite told the Post that another construction worker and a police officer performed CPR on the victim before paramedics arrived.

"I saw him standing out the window. He was cleaning the window," Humberto Vargas said.

The NYPD says the incident is under investigation. Check back for updates as we learn more.
