'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' Got A New Villain And Baby Groot Is Not Having It

We are all Baby Groot, TBH

We’ve still got a little less than a year to go before we’re hooked (on a feeling) on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, but thankfully director James Gunn gave us something to tide us over until next year. On Monday (August 22), Gunn and Empire Magazine shared concept art from the upcoming Marvel film featuring one seriously twisted villain.

If a T. rex, hollowgasts from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, and Cthulhu had a love child, it would be this mean-looking mofo. As Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldana), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), and Drax (Dave Bautista) face the creature with guns blazin’ in the concept art, Baby Groot (Vin Diesel) is peacing out. Honestly, same.

The monstrous villain’s name has yet to be revealed, but in the second Guardians volume, the heroes will also have to battle Yondu (Michael Rooker) and his posse as well as alien Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki). Of course, fans were quick to poke fun and give Gunn a hard time about the whole “breathing in space thing,” to which he had the perfect response.

When another fan asked that question, Gunn tweeted, “You guys are driving me crazy thinking dark skies & stars are space. Do you hold your breath on clear nights?”

The Marvel director then had a hilarious tongue-in-cheek convo with Silicon Valley’s Kumail Nanjiani and Masters of Sex’s Michael Sheen that went from asking GotG questions to throwing shade at the 2008 film Frost/Nixon.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 premieres in theaters May 5, 2017.
