Being openly conservative in public these days is basically an extreme sport now. If you support Trump with a MAGA hat, there’s a decent chance you’ll be assaulted. Just discussing conservative values with your friends is almost a certainly you’ll at least get some nasty comments and looks. Conservatism is not an approved use of the First Amendment, and people won’t hesitate to let you know.

That’s where the new app 63Red Safe comes in. It’s like Yelp, but with a twist- it asks users to tell you if it’s safe for conservatives.

The app store describes it as:

Reviews of local restaurant and businesses from a conservative perspective, helping insure (sic) you’re safe when you shop and eat!

Answer four quick questions about the business, and let fellow conservatives know if it’s safe for them:

* Does this business serve persons of every political belief?

* Will this business protect its customers if they are attacked for political reasons?

* Does this business allow legal concealed carry under this state’s laws?

* Does this business avoid politics in its ads and social media postings?

Find great restaurants nearby, and see how expensive, how far away, and best of all, whether they are safe for conservatives!

Of course, people are using it to avoid hearing another point of view. One reviewer wrote “I read about this so downloaded it because I thought it would be an easy enough way to avoid pro Trump stores.”

It makes sense. White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was asked to leave a restaurant for existing, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was chased out of a restaurant by angry liberals, and Tucker Carlson’s daughter was insulted when they went to another.

Wear a MAGA hat, and it’s worse. Adults are ripping them off of children, an old man was physically assaulted for wearing one, and this guy was just trying to have dinner when a woman kept harassing him.

“I’m trying to position it as an everyday ‘where can I go eat safely’ app,” Scott Wallace, the app’s founder, told The Daily Beast. He continued:

I believe that, between now and 2020, we’re going to see the rise of the socialist goon squad. I think antifa was nothing compared between now and what’s coming in 2020. And I’m deeply concerned.

We actually live in a world where an app like this is useful, but is it a good idea? Should we segregate ourselves and leave people to their safe spaces so that we can eat in peace?

We might have to decide. And that’s tragic.
