FME 2018 [Day 1]

This past weekend I attended FME (Festival de Musique Emergente) which happened from August 30 – September 2, 2018.
Some of the acts who I saw have been posted but I want to do a day by day post.
Starting off with the first night of the festival.
Arrived at Agora des Arts and caught Nakhane performing.
It was a wonderful electro-pop and soulful set.

Give that performance a 8/10.
Polaris Music Prize shortlisted artist Hubert Lenoir totally killed it!
There was so much buzz surrounding him, it is no surprise that the show was packed making it a hot and sweaty set filled with art rock, alternative and pop music.

Outside at the main festival grounds, I caught parts of the Montreal soul-fun band The Brooks.

There was this New Brunswick band I saw called Les Hôtesses d’Hilaire who played at the Espace Lounge Hydro Quebec.
Pretty lively rock set by the Moncton band.
All I have to say that the lead singer is pretty captivating to photograph.

First time seeing the Montreal band Klaus.
Featuring members of Patrick Watson, Karkwa and Galaxie.

Ending the night, I caught Pierre Lapointe et les Beaus Sans-Coeur.
Somehow I stepped into a prom-inspired show.
I wasn’t familiar with Pierre’s music but it was a lively rock-pop show.
Interesting show filled with costumes, cool banners, balloons and even condoms being thrown.
There was some mumbling the next day that some of the audience didn’t enjoy it.
If I am correct, Pierre’s music is mostly poppy and performs by the piano.

Give that performance 7/10.
This wraps up the first night of the festival.
