The name of the town means "Bishop's Meadow", and is home to about 12,000 people. It has a very cute and small old town center, which was the focus of our visit.
This town has been one of the oldest settlements in the country, with its old town being protected as a historical monument since 1987. There are enough curiosities to check out for a day, which was what we did. After lunch, we climbed the hill which contained Loka Castle, which I must say, was a very interesting museum.
See, the thing is, the museum contained in Loka Castle took a very personal approach to documentation. Škofja Loka might not be a town that is well-known to the wide world, but it is live and real, with real things happening here in the past and present, no matter how insignificant they might be in the grand scale of things. So that's what the museum decided to display, how life was like here in the town, in the past and the present. As it turns out, the exhibits were very personal, and I got the feeling that almost everyone who is connected with the village contributed something to the museum exhibits. It was a great way to learn about a town, I must say.
So that was our Škofja Loka visit. After checking out the town, we headed back to the car to drive to Bled, where we were staying for three nights.
