When it comes to Thanksgiving icons, the pumpkin pie is second only to the turkey, but the pie’s charms have nothing to do with the pumpkin—all the flavor comes from the added sugar and spices. Sweet potatoes, on the other hand, are naturally sweet, and so much easier to cook and puree.
