Depending on how you take your New York City—I like mine with cream and one packet of cynicism—you either loved the old, slightly down-on-its-luck South Street Seaport or appreciate that the area has taken on the bro vibe of the adjacent Financial District like a college student reinventing himself freshman year. Or maybe you haven't been down since your freshman year in NYC, so to speak, which might give you impetus to check out all the new dining options that've arrived in the historic East River landing site in recent years.
On Saturday, October 21st, the neighborhood throws its annual Taste of the Seaport event, which, like other "Taste" events, means wandering between tents to grab snacks from local restaurants and bars. The event is free to attend, however one must procure tickets for "tastes," which can be redeemed at any of the stands set up around the cobblestoned pedestrian streets.
Around 40 local spots are slated to participate. They range from sit down restaurants like Trading Post, Felice and Da Claudio, to NYC chainlets who've also opened outpost downtown including Big Gay Ice Cream, Blue Ribbon Federal Grill, Keste Pizza, and Westville. You can see the full lineup here.
As with any public event, expect some kind of crowd, particularly children at this event, which benefits local schools in the area with their arts and enrichment programs. There will even be a "panel of mothers" onsite to tell you what a special person you are for participating.
Tickets are currently in Early Bird phase, with 5 tastes costing $35 and 20 tastes for $125.
