If you’ve been wanting to upgrade your dog or cat’s diet but were waiting for the perfect opportunity, this weekend might be your chance. Petco will take your artificial-ingredient-ridden food off your hands in exchange for a free bag of artificial-free food.

If you bring in any bag or can of pet food with artificial ingredients, you can receive a free in-store nutrition consultation and free food. Depending on the selection available, participants can choose either:
One 6-lb. (or smaller) bag of dog food
One 4-lb. (or smaller) bag of cat food
Three 1.05 to 3.5 oz. cans, cups or pouches of cat food
A couple of caveats: You must be a “Pals Rewards” member (you can sign up online) and there is a limit of one trade-in per species, per household.
The event, which is happening at participating Petco locations on May 18 and 19, is part of the company’s push to improve its nutrition standards. As of this month, Petco has removed most dog and cat foods with artificial colors, flavors and preservatives from its shelves.
