Beginners Tips

The summer is coming, and you want to try new things. Are you thinking about getting into this surfing thing? Are you clear on what this is about? Could you use some advice? Today we are going to leave you a list of 10 tips that we consider basic for those who start getting into the water with aboard. We hope they’ll help you.

  1. Consider starting in a surf school

Going to a school or a surf camp to learn offers you three advantages over learning with colleagues. The first is that monitors usually have more experience and will know how and what to teach you at every moment. The second is they’re not going to leave you alone while you try to stand on your first foam because they get bored and can’t surf. The third is that they will provide you with material so that you will not have to borrow from your colleague that table that he has so much trouble getting out of his house and that he would not lend to his mother or borrow a mush-made neoprene.

  1. Dress for success

The water temperature is a very important factor to consider when choosing your surfer’s “wardrobe”. It will not be the same surfing, for example on the African Equatorial coast where the water temperature can easily reach 27 degrees as surfing on the English coasts, where we will find a sea at 15 degrees. Choose the neoprene that keeps you warm and allows you to move easily.

Sunscreen should never be forgotten at home either. Even more so if you live in very sunny areas. In Australia, for example, whose proximity to the ozone hole is greater than in other areas and where the sun badly punishes, it is expected that two-thirds of the population will suffer some form of skin cancer before they reach the age of 70. It is very fashionable to be brunette but watch out for prolonged and unprotected exhibitions.

Paraffin (also known as wax) is another essential element for surfing, as it is the element that will allow you to have the necessary adhesion to the board to avoid slipping and falling. Depending on the temperature of the water you can choose the paraffin that most matches the conditions of the beach where you will surf.

Don’t even think about surfing without the leash or invention. This rubber wire will help you get your board back in case of a roll and prevent it from slipping away and opening your head to someone who is sharing a bathroom with you.

  1. Choose the right table

The first table is usually like the first car: a basic model, easy to handle an,d ready to withstand a few blows. To get started yo,u can use a soft board. They are tables that are made with foam and have a lot of buoyancy and are soft (you will appreciate it when you leave your face glued to one of your first wipeouts). Then you can choose between the typical/classic polyester and polyurethane foam boards or the epoxy foam with polystyrene and epoxy resin.

As you take solace and skill yo,u will be able to choose the type of board that best suits your surf. You can choose the size, volume, number and keel layout, tip and tail type, etc.

  1. Choose a suitable spot

The ideal spot for a beginner would be the ocean equivalent to a children’s pool. Sandy shore, without rocks or reefs and with well-marked sandbanks.

Try to surf at first in the foam, stay away from the peaks where the most experienced surfers are to not “bother” and if you have any questions. Everyone has their level and knows their limits. But on many occasions, we are not aware of our limitations and can endanger ourselves or those around us.

It’s also a good idea not to go just to have someone around in case we have some kind of mishap.

  1. Learn the terrain topography

Getting to know the beaches in your area will make your sessions safer and more fun. Watch and try to learn how the tides and currents of each beach work. Both tides and currents can greatly influence the quality and safety of your bath.

Find out if there are usually jellyfish, Spider fish and, other “annoying” species in the spot to act with caution and not get out of red water like a tomato and swollen like an onion because of one of these “friends” of the sea.

Treat the beach like it’s your own house. No throwing junk out of the trash cans or making the animal with the natural environment nearby. If there are no trash cans, you keep your shit and throw it where it plays.

  1. Learn to interpret weather forecasts

You must familiarize yourself with the maps and tables of isobars, wind, and waves in order to be able to conclude when a spot may or may not work. Each spot works best with certain conditions so get to “study” to get to know some of these foresight models and decide what site you’re going to visit surf.
