NASA celebrates Halloween with special image of a ghoulish green dead star

Soon, the streets will be filled with ghosts and goblins in search of candy, but Earth isn't the only place in the universe being treated to some Halloween fun.

In honor of the holiday, NASA has created a special image of the Crab Nebula, an extra spooky dead star in the Taurus constellation.

Though the mass has been the subject of many pictures, this time it's cast in an eerie green glow, making its beating heart and rapidly swirling cloud of gas appear all the more menacing.

As far as exploded celestial bodies go, this one is particularly powerful.

The sphere's strength is 1 billion times that of steel, and its magnetic field produces roughly 1 trillion volts of electrifying power.
