Spider-Man And Iron Man Team Up (And Awkwardly Hug) In First 'Homecoming' Trailer

Spidey is back at home in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

The first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming is here, and between Tony Stark’s sardonic quips and those bargain-bin Avengers, the message is clear: Spidey, you’re home. (Home being the Marvel Cinematic Universe, of course, and not in Queens, New York — or in Tony Stark’s warm, fatherly embrace.)

After taking on Team Cap with Iron Man in Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker (Tom Holland) is back living his mundane teen life, doing homework and ogling his crush, Liz Allen, from afar. Now that he’s had a taste of the Avenger life, the teen web slinger is totally bored fighting petty street crime; he wants to be a superhero. Enter Tony Stark, who, like any great parental figure, quashes his dreams and tells him he’s not ready yet.

The trailer also gives us our first real look at Zendaya’s mysterious character and Michael Keaton’s next-level Vulture, who got a majorly cool costume upgrade. If only he wasn’t still such a dick. “Don’t mess with me because I will kill you and everybody you love,” he warns Peter. Ah, the classic “I’ll kill everyone you love” bit. Homecoming isn’t trying to reinvent the superhero genre here, but at least it looks fun as hell.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Sony also dropped the first international trailer, which features less high school and more Tony Stark. In fact, this trailer is really selling Homecoming as a superhero team-up between Spider-Man and his sardonic mentor, Iron Man. Honestly, we’re here for it.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters July 7, 2017.
