The Roundabout Theater Company will stage “The Humans,” a new play by Stephen Karam, in the fall of 2015, the company announced on Monday.

The play, to be staged at the Laura Pels Theater, Off Broadway, is Mr. Karam’s second Roundabout commission. The first, “Sons of the Prophet,” was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for drama in 2012. The company has also performed his 2007 comedy, “Speech & Debate.”

“The Humans” is a look at the dynamics of the modern American family, as seen through the interactions of a father from Pennsylvania who has brought his family to New York to celebrate Thanksgiving at his daughter’s apartment.

Joe Mantello, who won Tony awards for his direction of “Assassins” and “Take Me Out” (and is overseeing the musical “The Last Ship” on Broadway this season) will direct. The cast has not yet been announced.
