On Wednesday morning, a car drove onto the sidewalk right in front of a Borough Park yeshiva, Talmud Torah Imrei Chaim Viznitz, narrowly missing several children walking into the elementary school. Surveillance video released by NY1 shows the blue Toyota jumping onto the curb on 53rd Street, presumably to go around a fleet of parked school buses in front of the yeshiva.

Former New York State Assemblyman Dov Hikind, who used to represent the district, told ABC7 that the car's license number, along with the video, have been given to the 66th Precinct so that they can investigate.

"The community is demanding the arrest of this sick individual who unnecessarily endangered the lives of children simply because he couldn't wait an extra few minutes behind a bus," he said, noting that he believes the driver lives in the area.

Update: An NYPD spokesperson confirmed to Gothamist over email that they arrested Samuel Itzkowitz on Wednesday, February 27th. Itzkowitz has been charged with four misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, as well as reckless driving, driving a moving vehicle on the sidewalk, and failure to stop for a school bus.
